Does anyone else experience hives in the cold?

I'm 25 and have always gotten hives when exposed to extremely cold weather. But, I lived in California up until now. It gets cold in my hometown, just not THAT cold, so it wasn't a problem. Now, my husband got stationed upstate New York and its been snowing almost everyday. (Something I'm not used to.) He's deployed and I'm responsible for shoveling my walkway and drive-way. I break out in hives EVERY SINGLE TIME. Its very uncomfortable. My ears and finger swell up, turn red and burn really bad before the breakout. What I want to know is, is there anyone that goes through this same thing, and are there ways to prevent a breakout? I could really use the advice, its about 20 degrees average right now and its only getting colder, and colder, and colder......
