Why can't we ever have a rational discussion about policy changes?

people are too tied to their party loyalties..it defines them, gives them a sense of belonging to something larger than them..but they end up being a pawn in the interests of other more powerful people who reap the benefits...even though some of their party policies may do more damage than good they are willing to perpetuate failed ideology and lies to stay loyal to their party....pretty sad.
